With the unprecedented slashing of federal programs, the county legislature’s role in safeguarding our community is more important than ever.
Fiscal restraint is a must
but we must also maintain essential services,
protect human rights and the environment,
and strengthen our local economy.

PUBLIC WELFARE & HUMAN RIGHTS

In the current climate of federal cutbacks, maintaining our social safety net is more crucial than ever. The social safety is more than just a set of programs to protect the vulnerable and those with lower incomes - it is a commitment to the dignity and well-being of every individual. When elected, I will:

  • Maintain the social safety net: ensure people are fed, housed and have the health and human services and continuum of care they need; support children from cradle to college.

  • Protect targeted communities: defend the rights and safety of immigrants, trans,  LGBQ+ and people of color, people with disabilities, journalists and other targeted groups.

  • Advance justice and equity: support the Office of Human Rights, the Community Justice Center, alternatives to incarceration programs, affordable housing initiatives, a living wage and worker’s rights.

CLIMATE CHANGE & ENVIRONMENT

Investing in climate action is essential because the costs of inaction—rising disasters, health impacts, and infrastructure damage—are far greater over time. Addressing climate change now protects our communities, economy, and future generations, even as we manage other urgent priorities. When elected, I will:

  • Prepare for extreme weather events: develop a comprehensive resiliency plan to respond to floods, wildfires, heatwaves, droughts, and prolonged power outages.

  • Protect Cayuga Lake: oppose large-scale commercial water withdrawals and brine storage in Cargill salt mines; prevent pollution that promotes toxic algal blooms.

  • Transition off fossil fuels: promote energy-efficient housing, affordable electric heating, clean transportation, and green job development.

  • Commit to a circular economy: expand programs to support waste reduction, reuse and recycling, and reduce costly reliance on toxic landfills.

STRENGTHEN THE RURAL ECONOMY

Supporting the rural economy boosts the entire county by strengthening local food systems, sustaining small businesses, and preserving the land and resources we all rely on. When rural communities thrive, they contribute to a more balanced, resilient, and prosperous county for everyone. When elected I will:

  • Expand rural services: expand cell coverage, broadband, transportation, EMS and healthcare services - basic services that are the backbone of a modern economy. Rural communities should not be left out!

  • Support local businesses, farms and food systems: we can’t rely on getting our food from California. Supporting local farms and food systems means providing access to affordable, healthy food for all - its a win for our whole community.
